Virgin jetstar domestic hand luggage
Following Qantas' lead from several weeks ago, passengers will now have their carry-on luggage weighed either at check-in or at the gate to ensure it complies with limits. Those who exceed the seven-kilogram limit will have to check their bags into the cargo hold. This means all passengers on Australian domestic flights will now face having their carry-on luggage weighed. Virgin said the move comes after passenger complaints and the increasing risk to crew safety of heavy bags. Additionally, it has affected the airline's on-time performance as the crew spend time juggling oversized bags in overhead cabins. A spokesperson for Virgin Australia insist that this is not a new policy, but rather embracing a unified, industry-wide approach to cabin safety.

Airlines carry on about cabin bags
Excess baggage fees: Jetstar, Tigerair, Virgin Australia, Qantas tips | escape
Typically, airlines are free to dictate whatever carry-on size they like for their flights, which means that one airline may allow larger luggage sizes than another. Whether you're opting for carry-on luggage only or are actively seeking to max your baggage on your next flight, here's a comparison of the size and dimensions for carry-ons each Australian airline accepts on their domestic routes so you can book according to your luggage needs. Unsurprisingly, luxury Qantas and Virgin Australia offer more generous carry-on luggage allowances than their low-cost counterparts Jetstar and Tigerair. Of the two, Qantas is the winner for anyone travelling with bulky and hefty luggage, with a maximum length of cm and multiple pieces weighing 7kg each permitted in the cabin. When deciding between Jetstar and Tigerair, the carry-on sizes are almost like for like. Those not packing light can turn to Qantas, which allows its passengers to carry up to three items, including a personal item, each to a maximum weight of 7kg or 21kg in total.

My boyfriend and I travel with carry on luggage only almost everywhere we go, so I plan to attempt it for our month long trip to Australia and New Zealand coming up. Normally we are fine to each bring a small wheeled carry on bag and then I bring a beach bag hand bag? For the Virgin Flights , the weight limit is 7kg total per person, so I am going to work with that for all of our flights , but it's the bag dimensions themselves that I am not sure about. We always use a bag with total linear dimension of cm 36cm x 56cm x 23cm which I thought was standard, but on Virgin Airlines , their website says that the bag must be under cm 34cm x 48cm x 23cm. Does anyone know if they are strict with these dimensions if the total weight is ok?
Generally, for carry-on luggage, passengers are allowed to take one bag and one personal item with them onto their flight. Personal items usually include a laptop bag, handbag or briefcase that easily fits under the cabin seat. Only one of these additional hand carry size bags or suit packs can be brought in addition to the one personal item, as long as these can be lifted by the passenger and easily placed into overhead lockers. However, carry-on weights can change between airlines and classes of travel. For instance, Economy passengers may only be allowed one carry-on bag at kilograms per person, whilst Business and First Class passengers may be privy to extra pieces or more generous allowances.
